Power Management in Multiuser Adaptive Modulation Transmission under QoS Requirements

    Get PDF
A transmitter power management mechanism is presented in this paper where Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Multiuser Random Beamforming with Adaptive Modulation strategy is performed by the system. The objective of the proposed mechanism is quality of service (QoS) satisfaction for the scheduled user. The QoS is represented by the application demanded data rate and symbol error rate. The power outage problem is considered and a practical method to minimize the outage probability is proposed. The obtained results are encouraging as they show a great decrease in the system power budget. The multiuser system capability is also exploited to achieve larger power saving values and smaller probability of power outage by scheduling the user with the best channel characteristics at each time instant. The amount of saved power and the power outage probability are both presented through closed-form expressions. These theoretical results are compared to computer simulations, which show very good agreement in performance

Virtual and Augmented Reality for Developing Emotional Intelligence Skills

    No full text
The development and the cultivation of emotional intelligence and of the skills it can offer to the individual are the main elements and pursuits of contemporary research. The enhancement of self-control, the reinforcement of self-criticism and self-awareness and the cultivation of the constant self-development are the most central objectives of all the people and of the scientists since they are the cornerstone for euphoria. The aim of the present study is the review and the critical reproduction of information and conclusions that have been extracted from the international bibliography regarding the issue in question. More specifically, there will be an effort to evaluate and present the significance of the activities of virtual reality and of augmented reality that contribute to the development of emotional intelligence skills. Along the same lines, there will be an important review of the articles that refer to the exploitation of such digital tools, to achieve the same results for the people suffering from autism as well. Besides, the care for all the members of the society with no exceptions, and certainly of those members that suffer from mental retardation, should be of upmost importance. The present article focuses on the role that those tools play for the amplification of the skills in the sphere of emotional intelligence not only as far as the duration of the research is concerned

Meta-Learning: A Nine-Layer Model Based on Metacognition and Smart Technologies

    No full text
The international organizations of education have already pointed out that the way students learn, what they learn, and the skills needed, will be radically transformed in the coming years. Smart technologies are ready to come into play, changing the conditions of learning, providing opportunities for transformative learning experiences, and promising more conscious, self-directed and self-motivated learning. Meta-learning refers to a set of mental meta-processes by which learners consciously create and manage personal models of learning. Meta-learning entails a cluster of meta-skills that are progressively and hierarchically transformed, ensuring the transition to the highest levels of understanding termed meta-comprehension. The current article aims to investigate the concept of meta-learning and describe the meta-levels of learning through the lens of metacognition. In addition, the potential of smart technologies to provide fertile ground for the implementation of meta-learning training strategies is examined. The results of this article provide a new meta-learning theoretical framework supported by smart devices capable of supporting future meta-learners or, more accurately, meta-thinkers, to transcend the usual states of knowing and move to the next meta-levels of human intelligence

Metacognitive and Metaemotional Training Strategies through the Nine-layer Pyramid Model of Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence constitutes an important 21st century skill that impacts positively several areas of everyday life. It contains competencies that enhance the ability of other significant skills for self-development. The main purpose of this study is to present the way we can develop and improve our emotional intelligence based on the pyramid model and its nine layers. To achieve this goal, the paper seeks to address the following question: What are the metacognitive and metaemotional skills and strategies that can play a key role in developing, enhancing and improving emotional intelligence?Extensive reference is made to the skills that involved in each layer and have been identified as necessary and should be cultivated by the individual leading gradually to the higher levels of self-actualization and transcendence. Furthermore, we suggest some strategies in each layer that work auxiliary and supportive for the cultivation of the specific skills.Metacognitive and metaemotional skills and strategies are necessary to conquer the levels of emotional intelligence and to apply in a variety of contexts with the aim of developing emotional intelligence and self-improvement

Parents need to develop their cognitive and metacognitive skills such as lifelong learning skills, self-leadership, self-regulation, empathy as well as mindfulness and self-consciousness in order to sustain their parenting role as well as develop their personal and professional capabilities. More specifically, emerging technologies, such as mobiles and artificial intelligence have gained ground on enhancing responsible parenting, parents’ engagement with children’s learning procedures, parents’ wellness and active aging as well as parents’ cognitive and emotional balance in regard to their parenting role. Emerging technologies offer convenient, personalized and cost-effective training and assessment tools for parents with the final aim to create flexible and inclusive school communities

    Success: A 9 Layered-based Model of Giftedness

The current hierarchical structure of human cognition proposed is indicative of the multi - factorial and multi - layered construct of giftedness and intelligence. All individuals are intellectually endowed, but giftedness is perceived as an achievement in academic and practical intelligence as well as in the manipulation of wisdom-related skills and attitudes, taking into account nonintellective personal characteristics and contextual, sociocultural variables. Therefore, any attempt to measure intelligence should include multiple and diverse assessments comprising various psychological processes taking place in a specific time and place. Metacognitive processes are at the top of the hierarchy of cognition as their significance for one’s quality of life and social progress is immense and their existence signals for a successful person. Moreover, metacognition requires handling for a confluence of knowledge, feelings and skills in a balanced way; this is the point where individuals need to pay special attention in order to be both personally and socially successful as well as psychologically healthy

Women’s access and training to use mobile technology can set the ground for creating trusted communities that provide valuable guidance on new partnerships as well as alternative business models. Such business models encompass innovative business plans adapted to the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. Electronic commerce or small and medium-sized enterprises are pivotal to women’s entrepreneurship and they are both grounded on the adoption of mobile marketing technology and on the prolongment of the product life cycle by giving consumers’ control on its production, reuse and resale. In addition, mobile technology advancement as well as innovation, proactiveness and risk-taking initiatives can assist women to grow their business, enhance gender equality and provide long-term economic stability for a country
